As I recall, all K10 were short box, all K20 were long box in '60.

Sounds like an axle swap was done, what kind of axles are they?, you should be able to find a date of manufacture on the axle tube to the right of housing. I believe Dodge was the only one with factory 4x4 3/4 shortbeds then.

how about the ser #. it will tell us what it is and does the ser # on the frame correspond .that should answer your question instead of letting everyone theorize what it may be.

1960 was the first year of the corporate 4x4. Longbeds only. 1961 was the first year of the 4x4 shortbed.

You have it backwards. The longbed 1/2 ton 4x4 didn't come out until '61. Shortbed 4x4s and the longbed 3/4 ton 4x4s were both available in '60, as well as having been available from '57-'59, along with a 1 ton 133" wheebase mode from '57-'59. GMC had similar offerings, plus a 114, 123.25, and 133 inch wheelbase 1 tons.
I have found no listing for a factory built '60 Chevrolet 3/4 ton 4x4 though. I would suspect possible parts swapping. Does the truck in question have open knuckles on the front axle? That's a dead givaway that the axles have been swapped, along with possibly having a rear diff without a drop out 3rd member.

My information came from several reliable sources. Since you claim that they are wrong, please provide documented proof of this.

I'm amused by it, too. I'm curious about the serial numbers, and wouldn't mind seeing some pictures of the truck in question, epsecially the front axle. If it's not a closed knuckle Spicer 44, it's been swapped out.

Yes, there were longbed 1/2 tons in '60, but not as a 4x4. The 4x4 longbed 1/2 ton came out in '61 in both Chevrolet and GMC. I've checked 3 different sources (one GMC specific), all match on this. All of them also show no short 3/4 ton, which matches your info as well.

Neither source indicates a short wheel base (115"), 4x4, 3/4 ton truck, Panel or Suburban Carryall, nor a long wheel base (127"), 4x4, 1/2 ton truck, Panel or Suburban.

I believe a factory-built '60 Chevy 4x4, 1/2 ton, long wheel base (127") truck exists, even though I am not able to find any manufacturer or dealer literature, indicating or supporting this notion.

I took a look at the truck in question over on the 67-72 site (I'm not a member there, though). Something is definitly not right about that truck. The bed is much shorter than the standard 6 1/2' shortbed, and the wheelbase looks to be about the same as a Blazer rather than a short 1/2 ton. Unfortunatly, there aren't any pix of the suspension, axles, and frame, hard to tell what's been altered. But, from what I see, looks like it might have been a long 3/4 ton 4x4 originally, and somwhere along the line it was cut down for an unknown reason.

I tried to see if I could fix the picture links but the normal "issue" wasn't the problem.

Here is the whole Photobucket album and there is a sub-album for a 1960 Chevy K-20. Perhaps you all can figure what pictures you are looking for.

Hope this helps.

In this case, it would be "super rare", since there wasn't a short wheel base, 3/4 ton, 4x4 in '60-'66. Good luck with your project. Any photos of the frame mods?
