I've been restoring my 64' longbed stepside and had to find a different bed for it. I had a 62' that was in good shape, and now I'm getting ready to put it all back together with new wood and all. The new strips I ordered from a vendor in OKC seem to line up as they should, and I made my own new oak boards and just need to drill the holes as needed. My question is this... are there any differences in the 62' that are going to jump out and bite me in the butt when it comes time to put it on the frame of the 64'? Wishing I had done more homework before I got to this point, but no matter, I'll make the changes to make everything fit as need be. Hope this is going to work without too much work, but if there are any surprises in store, I'd like to know a little bit ahead of time if anyone can help me from throwing a fit when I find that after all this work, things aren't going to go as planned. The biggest differences between 62 and 64 beds are due to the 62 frame rails being a lot farther apart than the 64. Can you salvage your 64 rear sill so those brackets that sit on the rear frame horns will match your 64 frame? Of course you will have to drill the cross sills to match the 64 frame bolt locations and also drill your wood to match the 64 frame not the 62 frame. The cross sills on your truck have a spacer attached at each bed-to-frame location and you will have to move those to the appropriate locations to match your 64 frame.
