Have any of you used the type 2 harness from Jim Carter? I am gong to rewire my 51 ,3100 and also change it to an alternator. I've got a gift certificate burning a hole in my pocket and thought if this is a good harness this would be a good place to use it. I think it sells for about 140.00 Thanks.

One more question, As I said I am going to go to an alternator and the bracket that is sold in the suppliers catalogues looks to be kind of spendy . Is there a bracket on any particular old car or truck that I could pick up at the local junk yard that would work on a 235, or can one be easily bent or reformed from another bracket. Thanks

yes - can't recall right off which, but a later GM 6 [maybe even last of the 235's] has an alternator stock, and the mount bracket fits right in to replace the generator - found one that fit my 46 GMC 228 fine - take your bracket for reference and just look at any late 235, 230, 250, 292 in the yard to find a fit

My 64 has a factory alternator and the bracket looks like it could work fine on my 235 in my 60.

I forgot to mention that my engine in my 64 is a 230.

I just put a 63 amp, three-wire GM type alternator on my 54 3100. I modified the stock generator brackets to work. The bottom braket was slotted to connect the two holes in it. I then used 3/8" allthread and some nuts and washers to secure the bottom mount. The top mount had to be flipped over with no other mods. Looks pretty good and feels very secure.

Does that Type 2 harness include all the wiring up to the guages? Are there any other electrical items that need to be bought?

Yes the harness includes the wiring to the guages. If I recall correctly I only had to buy the harness to the head lights extra. I did this a couple of years ago. It went in pretty easy after I laid it out on the floor to get a better idea what went where.
