My steering column to firewall brace needs to be replaced but I'm having a heck of a time getting the old one out..everything unbolted ok but I can't maneuver it out. Anyone have any tips?

Were these put in before the dash was welded in?

OOOoo, I had a time with mine but its been a while so I don't remember much...and my cab was totally stripped/bare. I think the end that fastens to the firewall has to be loose and push up on it to gain enough room to manuvere it around. I also think the bolts that hold it to the firewall were a booger to get out as well.....not exactly what you want to hear but its as I remember it.
Maybe one else can help.

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you smile

thanks Alvin.

It looks to me like it was put in before the dash was welded in. I don't see any way to get it out unless it is bent. There is not enough play in any position to get the bolts pulled through the firewall. It is a bare cab as well.

It helps to have the gauges out. Once the nuts are loose, you can flex the dash to get it out. If I remember correctly, it comes out of the gauge hole.

Thanks..I've got the gauges out but the brace was in super tight and there is absolutely no play. I'm not sure flexing the dash would have helped here.

The brace was broken so I finally just cut off the studs at the firewall and pulled it out.

It will be fun putting a replacement in.
