I am in the process of replacing some rusted out pieces on my 48 1 ton and came across one that I have not been able to identify. Does anyone have any clue what piece this is?

That's the inner to outer cowl panel . They are reproduced and sold by many venders.

It looks to be the side of the "inner to outer cowl panel" and in order to see the side of this panel means the "Inner cowl Panel" is missing.
On these trucks there is an OUTER cowl panel....and Inner to Outer Cowl panel and lastly and Inner cowl panel.

Thanks for the info GMOINZ. I bought the initial replacement parts from LMC and did not think to look at Jim Carter.

I knew about the "Inner Cowl Pannel"... That was the piece I just removed to replace, and inherently found more parts to replace... imagine that.

Be prepared to be disappointed when you receive that part.
It will take some tweaking to make it work.

I noticed that the panels I have already bought do not really match as well as I would like them too. Selective cutting and welding has gotten me by so far.

This might help fit the new inner outer panel.I got a new cowl and inner outer from Jim Carter and made this change and sent them back to him hoping that they would make this simple change so that the inner outer would fit right from the vendor but I never heard back to bad ,I did talk to Jim when I was in Kansas city but no change has been made.So I guess We will continue to do it ourselves.

This piece looks hace more metal than the Jim Carter part. Closer to the modification that Pete52 posted.

Thats just the lower section of the inner outer on some trucks just the lower section of the inner outer and the cowl are rusted thru thats why they sell them that way.

Was the inner to outer cowl originally spot welded to the inner cowl?

What is the proper way to attached the inner cowl to the floor pan?

Thanks DADS50, you seem to be helping me out a lot lately.

How did you attach the inner to outer cowl to the inner cowl? I do not have any means of spot welding at the moment.

If you have no way to spot weld then maybe consider 3M 8101 Structural Panel adhesive and some rivets...

I welded it.

I cut the old spot welds out with a spot weld cutting tool.

welded it back in with a Lincoln Handy MIG

From your first post it looks like your inner to outer is not in to bad of shape. you could just patch the part you have circled in place then replace the kick panel.

For some reason repairing the part slipped my mind...

There are some other parts around the front fender that I want to clean up and paint, but that would definitely save me some money. Thanks Again.
