Since my 1942 dump has been converted to 12 volt, I really do not see myself useing the factory location under the floor. Thinking about using a box on the frame rail just behind pass side of cab sort of like the big rigs have. Has anyone else moved their battery to a different location? PS, I don't want it on the firewall.

Why not the factory location?

The original tray won't accept a 12 volt, easier in and out as this truck won't be a daily driver ,I don't like leaving batteries in my trucks when not being used.

will it take a size 61 or something? thats what i have, in my 53, it works great. im pretty sure the tray is original and its a 1/2 ton, im not sure if there is a diff or not. and its not hard for me to remove it or just unhook it if i need. i just noticed you said 1942...humm

alltruck72, Another thing to take into consideration is that when you locate the battery farther from the starter,the more resistance you have in the wires,resulting in less current to your battery,and more heat,generated from the resistance in the cables. I had a cable fall on the ground-on-fire,from an over-length jumper-wire,although it was on a COF4070B IHC TranstarTwo.,equipped with two 12V batteries,335 Cummins Fuller RTO9510,10-speed,twin Rockwells with 4:11's B.T.W.-It also "cashed the starter!-EXPENSIVE!! B.T.W... the cable was less than 4' long.

Beleive it or not , my truck came from the factory with the battery mounted behind the cab, covered with a metal box.
Mine is a 45 GMC 400 series truck.
According to the master parts book, that setup was exclusive to the 400 & 450 series trucks.

Military Chevys from 1942-45 had the battery mounted on the right side frame rail immediately behind the cab. From the image, you can see that the cab corner is actually clipped for clearance.
