All,
I've been lurking for quite some time and now it's time to ask a few questions. I'm looking for the best manuals/parts lists for the above truck. This truck is fairly complete, but I know there are parts missing. The truck drives and stops, which we didn't do in the right order and almost smacked into a motor home! The bed isn't on the truck so I'd like to find an exploded assembly view w/ parts list so that I can get the missing pieces. Also, who are some of the recommended vendors? I see that Jim Carter is listed and I will check them out. Have been on American Classic Trucks site as well. Thanks.

Howdy,

welcome to the 'bolt.

For parts vendors...

Links

"Parts" for the parts vendors list... and "publications and literature" for books and things related to repair.

If the parts vendors sell parts for your vehicle, they usually sell reprints of the shop, owner and accessory manuals for your year. You will have to shop around and explore.

If not, you can check online auction sites, online used book stores or swap meets for original old copies.

Mar-k sells bed assembly instruction manuals.

No one book is going have the whole truck. The Master Parts Manual found here, http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/index.htm will have the break down of each piece, but you will have to hunt for them. Best bet is to figure which pieces you think you need, then look through the venders and try and find a kit containing them or each piece one at a time. Most venders have pictures of the parts so you will get a good idea of what you need. You can also find the information package here, http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/chevyresto/40index.htm . It may give a clue or two what is missing.

Here is the '39 information since the '40 is missing some pages, http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/chevyresto/39index.htm

Woogeroo and Joe,
Thanks for the replies. I was hoping that there was a repro house like LMC for this year of truck that published a catalog. American Classic has a nice site, but doesn't list required quantities, so I don't always know how many I need. I'll take a look at the above links and hopefully be able to piece it together.

I've found a lot of stuff for my truck at chevsofthe40s.com. They have a pretty nice catalog, and they sell reprints of the Chevrolet service manuals at a good price. They cover '37-'54 Chevy cars and trucks. Hope this helps, and good luck with your truck. I really dig the '39 and '40 trucks.

edit: Be sure to note the missing "y" in the web address.
