Hi All,
Thinking of getting back into the stovebolts after a few years away from the sport. Got my eye on a 52 AD, and about to take the plunge.
I have owned a 46 chev and a 55 GMC in the past, so I'm not a total noob, but nowadays I have limits on time, tools and space. Also new in this area, so any local help, finding parts, recommendations for old school mechanics or machine shops would be much appreciated! Anybody nearby?
Paul

One of our very own has a mechanical shop in Kennsington Md. Welcome to the ODSS and back to the east coast! We go on junkyard tours at least once if not more per year.

Looking forward to meeting you when you get here!

Paul,

Welcome to the ODSS! Are you in the area yet? If so, a couple of us here in the Old Line State can find you and take you over to the shop Sweet is talking about. I have been wanting to make a pilgrimage to Senior's for a long time anyway.

Hopefully the rest of the gang will introduce themselves. We have a couple of other new guys who came to TriState this year (just last month) and it was great putting them through the ODSS Initiation Ritual. Speaking of ... Hey Nick, how did it go at the Doc's? Are the stitches out yet??

Thanks for the welcome! Looking forward to getting to know the area. Any meets or meetings coming up?
If I go for this 52, it would have to be this weekend. Any recommendations for someone with a flatbed or trailer?

Where are you located. I have the truck and trailer. I live on Kent Island. Does the truck run?

Who has a shop in Kensington, I grew up there, well in Garret Park actually. Mom is still there

JG, that would be Phil Sr's shop. You know, the one he keeps his chrome bolt Stovebolt parked in the corner all the time.

Welcome Paul. I would offer to help but my plate is a little full right now and my trailer is in Thurmont until at least the end of next week. Too bad too because I could use it right now. I stumbled upon a cool art deco work bench and a vintage reconditioned Craftsman drill press for easy money.

Brother Marlow,

I am free tomorrow and I have help (14 yo). Let me know asap, as I would need to fetch my tailer in Easton. Next weekend is out, I have to work both Saturday and Sunday.

Thanks, but have got the 52 in the garage now! Turned out I had to pick it up today. So I'm the proud new owner of a 52 3100 deluxe cab.

Tomorrow will be trying to figure out what to do next. Very original, surface rust, some dents, 216 not running, needs brakes, rear and side windows, no seat, no tailgate. Want to see if it will crank by hand. Anybody got an engine crank?

Will post some photos soon (new thread?)

I have an engine crank but frankly, it would be a whole lot easier just to pull the plugs, put some oil in each cylinder, let it sit a few days and then just grab the harmonic balancer with both hands and see if it will turn that way.

Even if it is still free (i.e., not seized), you don't want to turn an engine that's been sitting a long time as there probably isn't much/any lubrication on the cylinder walls. Let the oil do its work and then give it a try.

Congrats on the truck, BTW!

Thanks. Hoping to get it running by spring.
Just poured a gallon of marvel mystery oil in each cylinder and the rest in crankcase to start trying to unstick engine. That stuff looks suspiciously like ATF. Considering topping it off with diesel and let it soak. Or does anyone know a better recipe for this app.?

Actually in Takoma Park.
Havnt had time to work on truck till this afternoon, except for spraying lots of PB blaster in engine. Today opened up flywheel cover -boy was it a mess in there!. Then got the engine to turn with a prybar about 1/8th of a turn.
Also pulled the MCylinder - which seems to have blown a long time ago - no boot, piston frozen, reservoir dry. Anybody try the NAPA rebuild kit?
