Quick question:

We're going to try and rebuild the master cylinder on our 1949 Chevy 3600. Upon removing it the steel brake line corroded itself to the fitting/brake line nut. We had to cut the steel line.

What type of flare are we making to repair the steel brake line? It's been a while

Double flare. I have a 1950 3600 that I went through the same thing on. Get yourself a 4 ft 1/4 inch brake line and a cheap bending tool. That worked perfect to go from the master cylinder to the tee fitting along the pass side frame. Here's a pic.

PS, if you want to make your own, they are double flared fittings. Get yourself a good flaring tool.

We're in Snoqualmie. I haven't had a chance to formally introduce the truck to the forum yet. The little lady saw it in a friends garage and fell in love. So here we are. We'll post up picture when we get it rolling.

Bugger! I have a ISO kit, of course. Maybe We'll just bend a new one.

No problem. Just to be clear, you can buy a 4 ft line with the ends already flared and the fittings in place where all you have to do it bend and install. easy@!

The cylinder wasn't heavily pitted and honed up nicely. We went with new line and you're right, that was the way to go. She bled out just after sundown (with a little encouragement).
