What highway speed can I expect with an eaton rear end, 5.29 ratio, 22.5 tires, 235 ci engine, and original 4 speed tranny?
Thanks much

Use the Search area at the top pf the page and type in Speed Calculator. It will list some options to figure it out.

9R22.5 tires which should fit nicely in the 51 fenders are 38" tall
The original 4 speed is a direct drive; 1:1 ratio in high gear.
A later 235 is comfortable on the highway at a constant 2,400-2,500 RPM in my experience.

Plug all that in and it spits out 53 MPH

Thanks Grigg,
I was trying the calculator but did not have all the pertinent data.
I did not know the transmission ratio at 4th gear. I do have a 1955 235 ci engine. I can get this rear end differential circa 1994, with disk brakes and low mileage for $350.00.

Another question would a v8 engine make a difference? (replacing the 235 ci )

Disc brakes on the rear in my experience always came with disc on the front too. Never seen disc on the rear and drums on the front (factory) and not sure it's a good idea to do so.
Are you also considering disc brakes up front?

Depending on the engine you swap it will/can have a different comfortable operating RPM.
