Brad couldn't seem to get this posted so I've posted it for him. I'll be seeing ya'll Saturday morning. Here is his note.

Well ****, when it rains it pours!

Can you post the following for me? It won't let me post on the thread for some reason.

UPDATE!!!!
A little bit of what could be perceived as bad news, but it's actually going to work out much nicer!

I originally talked with YearOne about the tour about a month ago, and my contact said that'd be good and to get with him and firm it up. I called and left a message with him two weeks ago, and then got wrapped up with a bunch of stuff.
Called back today when I finally remembered during regular business hours, and they aren't able to give us the tour like he said he could.

HOWEVER, I know a guy who is right in Commerce, in the old part of historic down-town Commerce, who has a high-caliber restoration shop in a 1946 Chevrolet Dealership he's restoring.

I talked with him about visiting his place and seeing some under-construction projects, getting a tour of the building, etc., and he loves the idea.
This guy does restoration RIGHT, so we should all be able to pick up a few tips and ideas for how to restore our own stuff.

The building has a ton of history too, and he's found the daughter of the original owner--she's 90 years old, and helped run the dealership for over 35 years, and she still lives in Commerce. He's got pictures of the original employees, vintage signs, etc. etc. etc.
It's a car-guy's shop the way we'd all do it if we could.

He'd love to have us in for a gander, and he said he'll take us out to the town pizza place after, for a late lunch or an early dinner.

I'm actually more enthused about this tour than YearOne... I like seeing how things go together.

I told him we'll be there about 3:30.
The company is:
Vintage Metal Works
1556 South Broad Street
Commerce, GA 30529
(706) 335-1105

We can meet there, or at the hotel, or the WalMart up the street, or wherever, and cruise over together.

Everyone please shoot me your phone numbers and home email in a Private Message, and I'll give you my contact info and will be able to send you an itinerary for the weekend.

Actually, I post my number all over the internet anyway, so here it is: 706) 424-5035, and [email protected]

A little bit of flying-by-the-seat-of-my-pants on this one, but I sincerely believe it'll be a lot more interesting.
And definitely more hospitable.

-Brad

Got an idea what time the tour might be? Too bad about the other tour getting cancelled, but this one sounds great!

ohwell
I guess we can all decide that at the swap meet.... probably just switch it with Year One which I think was around 2:30 or 3.

I'm not in S.C. and I hate this little lap top of a computer my daughter has me working from. I'll see ya'll Saturday

I thought the Year One tour was supposed to be on Friday- - - -right, then the trip to Helen, GA after the swap meet on Saturday? Guess I'll find out when we get there!

The shop tour is on FRIDAY.
The cruise to Helen is Saturday, after the show... we will probably leave for Helen at 4pm, but we'll talk about a definite time on Saturday.
After the show, I need to go home and unload the truck and grab a shower... and the departure time of the last vendors is always hit-and-miss. Sometimes they're gone by 1, sometimes it's 2:30.
My home is just two exits down from the track, so my travel time is short.
Jim, the owner of Vintage Metal Works, is a hell of a guy--and I am virtually certain that if any Saturday Bolters would like to kill an hour or two at his place between the end of the swap meet and the Helen cruise, he'd oblige you with a shop tour.
In fact, another guy who contacted me about the show is coming in on Friday for it, and he knows Jim and is planning on dropping in Saturday afternoon too.
If anybody has any questions, please don't hesitate to give me a call! (706) 424-5035, or shoot me an email at [email protected]

The shop tour would have to be Saturday for me. No way I can make it Friday. BUT, I'll be there Saturday A.M. and I'll play it from there.
YA'LL drive safe.

Hey, everybody- - - - -thanks for a great time! We got back to Tennessee late last night and sort of crashed! That was about a 300-mile trip one way, about 100 more than we thought. Of course, ignoring the GPS and taking a tour of 2-lane highways through the north Georgia mountains had a lot to do with that! It turns out that driving nearly to Atlanta and then turning north really is the short way to get from Chattanooga to Commerce GA!

The Vintage Metal tour was great! That's the absolutely right way to do restorations. He's got a going concern there, and the retired Chevrolet dealership location really adds to the effect. Best of luck to Jim and his business!

I want to thank Brad for organizing this Gabfest. Commerce and Brad's Swap meet provided an ideal setting for a Stovebolt get together. I enjoyed spending time with Alvin and Victoria, Dennis, Jerry, Brad and Jim and a lot of good car folks from the Commerce area. Dennis really helped me with some much needed pickup parts.

I hope we can do this again. However, it may work better to schedule this Gabfest in early Spring when ( hopefully ) more folks can come.

I had a good time too, guys. It was great hosting you.
Earlier in the year is great with me! I'll look at my schedule for next year and see what we can come up with.
