I'm putting a 55-62 235 in my 48 chevy half ton , Its been going pretty well up till now I need to change my waterpump for a shorter shaft . I've seen adapter plates for the 216 waterpumps and the short shaft 235 pumps ,Wondering from someone else's experience which is the better choice?? Thanks any help appreciated ! TeeRoy

I used the water pump adapter when putting a 235 in my 1950 3600. I got mine from predave68 and it worked great. Easy instructions.

I used one from a member here, pre68bowtie, moves the water pump to the center of rad. works great.

There are variety of ways to search for old posts on different topics. If you push the word Search that is just to the left of FAQ, above, you will see a lot of posts on this topic - type in: +water +pump +plate

The relocation plate, used with the older 216/235 water pump for your earlier year truck, is considered to be the best way to use a newer 235/261 in older trucks. This places the water pump in the correct orientation to the radiator, and at the correct distance from the radiator (and it allows you to use the correct width pulley on the water pump).

Also if you use the adaptor and use a stock 216 or early 235 water pump,if you break down you can get a water pump from any FLAPS in the area they may have get it the next day but the short shaft pump would have be ordered from a on line store.

I installed the adaptor and it's easy and have never had any problems.

Thank you Guys, Thats great info. Where is the best place to buy one of the adaptor plates ? I've never done much thread tapping but I think I'll give it a try! TeeRoy

I think The Filling Station also carries them from $5 more.

I didn't do any serious tapping either before I did this - but I had a scrap block that I tested my skill on first. Take your time, don't rush, you'll be fine.

i got mine at napa it was almost a match the heater hose port was the wrong size you can get a new one there too

lilrobo , Are you talking adapter plate or water pump? I went on Ebay and ordered the adapter plate from pre68dave . Can't wait to get it I've been working on this truck for a quite awhile with plenty of set backs and it's getting pretty close to engine start time ! Like I wrote in my signature, This Truck is teaching me patients!!
