It needs a rebuild and was wondering if anyone knew where to find the correct #'s off the block to see which motor i'm dealing with b/f i dissasemble it. it may or may not be the original. it's a duelly so i assume it's a one ton, correct me if i'm wrong.
daren | | | | | Joined: May 2012 Posts: 574 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2012 Posts: 574 | they are either on the head(s) or on the intake manifold,i got a 79 gmc sierra classic that has the original motor and the numbers are hidden under 33 years of grease and grime there, so get a wire brush, wd-40 and some rags and see if you can find em, that should give you a place to start. let me know how it goes.

The 2 or 3 letter suffix at the end of the stamping will identify the original application. Virtually all the truck engines with 4-bolt main bearing caps have a "T" as the first letter of the suffix. You will find the block is stamped with a casting number and date behind the driver side cylinder head. Combine that info with the suffix code (2 letters in front of the passenger side cylinder head).
