The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Driveline 68 C10 questions

I may be able to wheel and deal to get a 68 C10 longbed. I'm wondering if I'd be able to pull the engine, tranny, and rear end out of the 68 to put in the 52 3600. The one thing that's stumping me is the possible (almost certain) wheel base differences that would prevent me from dropping the whole drivetrain from one into the other. If the wheel bases are different, I'm guessing that the drive shaft would be either too long or too short.

And before anyone decides to lynch me for taking from one and giving to another , the 68 may serve a dual or triple role: I need a truck to grab parts for the 52, and would be driving the 68 until I get the 52 ready. From there, the 68 would also be used by a friend with a 70 shortbed for any other parts that he may need.

Just need to make sure before I take my one and only semi-reliable transportation in and get rid of it. And since this is about the best site I've found for info on both trucks, I figure that someone here would know.

I'd be less concerned about the wheelbase difference than the width of the axle. So what if you need to shorten the axle. It's a fairly simple process.

I don't know the width of either, but I do own a pair of '72's and a stock '53, and I imagine the '68 rear is too wide.
