Just curious if any of you folks have any neat ideas for backup (reverse) lights on an AD truck. Was wondering if there are any lights out there that would work for this application that would also look "stock" (like they belong there)? TIA.

CMayna has posted he just directs his spotlight backwards.

I was thinking about using VISI-BOLTS ,they have some bumper bolts that have lights in the center that are not visible until they light up.I believe the website is www.visibolts.com .See what you think about it!

I doubt you would be able to see any better from the cab with those. What are backup lights for? To see or to be seen?

The backup lights on my daily driver Talon do both - I found some 55 watt halogen replacements for the backup lights. It's like having headlights back there!

I would think that the main reason for backup lights is to announce your intentions to other drivers, much the same as turn signals. When you're cruising the mall parking lot it's always nice to see those backup lights come on from a car up near the entrance just as you've about given up hope of finding a spot.

Thanks, all, for your kind responses. I've heard of the backwards spotlight trick before, but once I get a truck, spotlights won't be happenning (I don't personally care for 'em). Also heard of those visibolt gadgets, but I was thinking along the lines of a stock appearing light fixture which could be installed on the rear bed sill under the tailgate. Sort of inconspicuous, blending in with the original style of the truck, but there when you need 'em. Yes, I think backups are both to see and be seen.

How 'bout something like the '47-'53 park lamp assemblies? I seem to remember some rod supplier making a product like the '48 Chevy passenger car taillights, except a bit smaller and with a white lens for use as backup lights? It was awhile ago, so I might be mistaken. Anyhoo, thanks again for your replies.

I would use early ('55-60) Willys CJ parking lights. They have a nice clear beehive glass lens that looks period, and they can be fitted with nice bright bulbs.

You'll find nice black metal housing tractor lights available from any tractor dealer or NAPA , mount underneath the bed a was in and they can't bee seen untill you turn them on .

They'll really light up behind you and are good for tailgaters too .

I'd like to find a way to mount a switch on the Muncie SM420 tranny .
