I was wondering what oil pressure a small block chevy V-8 should run at hot idle. I have a rebuilt 283 with 40K miles and it only runs about 7.5 psi when good and warm and idling in traffic. It can run on that pressure,but I would feel safer if it were around 15 to 20psi +

| | | | | Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 | my rebuilt 283 w/ under 5000 mi and a high pressure pump, puts out ~30psi [center of stock gauge] at hot idle, and pegs the gauge when over idle cold - nearly so when warmed up. I'd verify that pressure like mechainiac sez, and if it's real - change the pump. might be usin too lite oil too.
