At one time someone posted the correct number of classification lights that go on the truck cab roof to denote the trucks size/weight . I looked in the "search" area but can't find the post . Anyone have that info ? I just got a '53 Chevy 1 1/2 ton wrecker but it has no roof lights and I want to put the correct number of them on it . Thanks in advance .
never heard of "classification lights", but over a certain size [depending on the jurisdiction, usually based on width] there's normally 3 in the center a few inches apart called marker lights to indicate height, and one as near to the widest outside points as possible, called clearance lights - ones at the front are always yellow now but the front clearance lights at one time were green - ones at the back are always red .... you should check the Kansas MV code, it'll be specified

say that any truck over 80" wide needs two clearance lights (at front corners of roof) and three identification lights (front center of roof 6"-12" apart). I have seen AD series trucks with three lights total, one at each corner and one at the center. I think at one time they used three for the widest trucks and one for "in between?" I have also seen pictures of green lenses used on some of these trucks instead of amber.
Those regs are for vehicles manufactured after 1968.
It would be interesting to see the 1950s regs.
