New to the forum and new to truck restoration. My husband and I just started working on a 1954 GMC 1/2 ton pickup. He's owned this truck since he was 13, but has only done smaller jobs on it. Its a bit of a hybrid in that it as a pre-1954 chevy front. We are onlooking forward to getting her into better shape. I'm sure we will find this forum useful in finding answers to our questions. smile

Welcome to the both of you. Good to see you intending to work on it together. Are you going to put the GMC grille back in? Be sure to ask if you run stuck. Good luck.

We are considering putting a 1954 GMC grill back on it, provided we can find all the components required to redo the front end - grill, hood and fender parts. Do you have experience fitting one?

Can't wait to meet other people in the northwest working on similar projects! Any good local resources I should know about?

eb54, welcome to the Stovebolt along with the others. Best old chevy/gmc web site there is.

Depending on what you firmly decide you can post for parts you need in the Parts Wanted Forum of the swap meet. The "fitting" questions will get lots more attention in the Paint and Body forum than here in the welcome centre.
Good luck on your project and we're here to help. I'm sure you'll find some bolters near you....just give them time. They'll find you!!

.....and we love pics when you can post a couple.

Welcome!

If you and your husband want some trucking inspiration, come by the Tri-State show in Winchester on Sept 20-23. The ODSS will be there and we have plenty of stovebolts to make everyone smile!!!

I've had good results from Dreamers Rods & Pickups on Evergreen Way in Everett - a good local source for parts. Also Chev's of the '40's in Vancouver, WA are pretty close. Other " on-line " sources include Jim Carter Truck Parts, and Bowtie Bits. As well, keep an eye on E Bay for misc. stuff you may need.

eb54,

Another satisfied customer of Dreamers in Everett (though I haven't bought a lot).

Coming up soon in our neck of the woods is the Monroe swap meet Oct. 6th and 7th. A vendor there I have had good luck with who specializes in Chevy and GMC trucks is Sam Simone.

Best of luck to you both. Very cool project.

Thanks for the info! I just found Sam this weekend in my hunt for wheels. Good to hear from someone else who has purchased from him. We are looking forward to our first swap meet in October smile.
