The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area The Electrical Bay Light question

First off, the truck is a 1970 C-10 that my son and I are doing a mild restoration on.

The electrical problems;

#1, When I turn the turn signal in either direction, both turn signals flash along with the rear side marker lights.

#2, No rear brake/tail lights.

While removing the bumpers to start body work, I checked the wiring that I could see. No problems found. The problem was going on BEFORE bumper removal. Any suggestions???

Almost sounds like you might have a bad ground back there. Is there a light plug for a trailer?

Big T, Thanks for the reply. Yes there is a trailer light plug. i checked the ground at the point that it was screwed into the bumper. i alos checked for "skined" placs in the wiring going to the plug.

You might have a short between the marker &
turn lights. Try unpluging the front turn lights
1 at a time at the radiator support & see if that
changes anything. Follow the wire going to the rear lights along the frame. Look for broken or
coroded wires. I,ve got a 70 also. Great truck.

Lights act really funky when they have a bad ground. Ground the lights to the frame and replace or remove the trailer plug and go from there. Good luck and have a great turkey day every one.

I think Wrenchbender is an the right track. The turn signals and running lights are two separate circuits. Somehow they have become cross connected.

Check all of those dual filament bulbs. It is surprising how often one filament will break and short to the other filament causing a cross connection.
