Turn on key & the gauge should read empty. Remove the wire from the sender & it should read full. If it doesn,t check for power at the gauge. Than try the same test on the terminal that goes to the sender. If you have current to the gauge & it still doesn,t move you need a new gauge.

#87415 11/24/2004 10:32 PM | Joined: Oct 2002 Posts: 4,066 Bolter | | Bolter Joined: Oct 2002 Posts: 4,066 | I gave up on trying to find my problem,installed after market stewarn warner,, new sender and gauge,, works great and right on the money,,but then if you want to keep the stock one working then as mentioned a lot of tips on the bolt,, make sure you new sender is matched up to your gauge(ohms) or it wont work,,good luck,,Fred

Installed it and it went to full even though I only have about 1/2 a tank and then it just kept goin! I mean the needle disappeared behind the bezel. What's up with that? | | |

Ground the wire at the sending unit & the gauge should go to empty. If it does the sender is defective or not grounded.

No matter how full the tank, the guage always goes rapidly to the full setting when I turn on the ingnition. I just ignore it and calculate how far I've gone and figure out when to fill-up based on my MPG (which is about 15) How can I correct?
