I've started several engines that wouldn't even try to run with pretty OK-looking plugs, but made no effort to start and run. Fresh plugs- - - -started on the first attempt! Jerry

If you haven't static timed it, you need to do so. | | | | Joined: Jul 2012 Posts: 5 New Guy | New Guy Joined: Jul 2012 Posts: 5 | Thanks, all. I just put in new plugs. Still no start. I double checked power to coil with ignition on, got 12+ v.
Will take off the valve cover today. Also, found a thread here discussing static timing. Will try that too, and report back.
Am also draining the fuel tank because it sat for a year with just a gallon or two in it. | | | | Joined: Jul 2012 Posts: 5 New Guy | New Guy Joined: Jul 2012 Posts: 5 | SOLVED!!!! Right - don't laff, dudes (OK, ur going to laff). Dist cap on backwards. Complete rookie just learned another something. Running and timing adjusted, sounds great. Now for the warped valve cover. I'm not guessing a new gasket will take care of that. LMC or Brothers? Any other suggestions for a source? Please wait until you stop laffing to reply. | | | | Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 54 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 54 | LOL Well you got it running thats good, try these guys for your part their in Portland Or. The older and more "experienced" we get the less likely it is for us to admit our mistakes and laugh at them. I can tell you I've made some real boners that weren't near as easy to fix as yours little mishap.
Hope you keep us posted on your progess and e always like lots of pictures. | | |
