Sat for a year
Was not getting spark from coil so replaced:
-coil
-plugs (pretty dirty but not awful)
-plug wires
-condenser
-points
-rotor
Got spark. Turns over, no start.
Am getting gas into carb. Tried starter fluid and even poored a couple TS of gas into carb.

Next step?

Change the plugs, especially if they've ever been wet down with fuel (flooded). I've started several engines that wouldn't even try to run with pretty OK-looking plugs, but made no effort to start and run. Fresh plugs- - - -started on the first attempt!

Hy track29, welcome, take the valve cover off and check for bent pushrods, if no pushrods are bent, then watch all the valves while cranking the engine just to make sure they are all moving down and back up, hope that helps.

Well if you changed the points, the timing will have changed. If you haven't static timed it, you need to do so.

Thanks, all. I just put in new plugs. Still no start. I double checked power to coil with ignition on, got 12+ v.

Will take off the valve cover today. Also, found a thread here discussing static timing. Will try that too, and report back.

Am also draining the fuel tank because it sat for a year with just a gallon or two in it.

SOLVED!!!! Right - don't laff, dudes (OK, ur going to laff). Dist cap on backwards. Complete rookie just learned another something. Running and timing adjusted, sounds great. Now for the warped valve cover. I'm not guessing a new gasket will take care of that. LMC or Brothers? Any other suggestions for a source? Please wait until you stop laffing to reply.

No ones laughing or I can't hear them. The older and more "experienced" we get the less likely it is for us to admit our mistakes and laugh at them. I can tell you I've made some real boners that weren't near as easy to fix as yours little mishap.

Hope you keep us posted on your progess and e always like lots of pictures.
