Instead of replacing the original vacuum advance is it possible to replace the entire distributor with one for a 1966 230 engine with a more modern vacuum advance? | | | | Joined: Apr 2010 Posts: 283 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2010 Posts: 283 | It can be done with machine work and money but why? Just replace your vacuum can.The distributor for engines later than 1962 will not easily fit earlier.

The hold down seat need to be machined. | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 28,674 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 28,674 | Assuming you're running a 12 volt electrical system, just swap to the HEI ignition used on the late-70's and newer engines. It's a fairly simple swap that only involves a little machine work. That eleminates the points altogether, and gives you a much hotter spark. Jerry
