A question for all of you with clean engines .....
Any recommendations on the installation of a 235 valve cover to help prevent leaks?
I have a clean newly painted valve cover and engine. Have made sure the surface of the valve cover is straight and not bent or warped. Have a new gasket. Should I use a sealer between the valve cover and gasket and no sealer between the block and gasket? or vice versa? What type of sealer?
Thanks,
John L.

I glued the gasket to the cover, also made sure not to overtighten the bolts to compromise the gasket.

Did the same as Sweet, that was 2 years ago and it just started leaking now ,I drive mine every day so I think that is the best way to do the job.

Some guys with 216s shellack two gaskets together so the fit is more snug with less torque and others shellack a single gasket to the head to form a deeper trough.

...I did the two gasket trick and it worked great.

What I like to do is glue the gasket to the valve cover because it is easier to clean of the old gasket on the work bench than clean it off the engine and not have small bits of gasket go into the engine.
