He said it has more of the additives we need for our old engines. He also has me adding ZDD (zinc) to the oil to give the lifters/cam the protection they need. Modern engines don't need zinc because they have roller lifters. Especially if you're running a fresh cam and lifters, the extra ZDDP additive in the Diesel rated oil will help prevent premature wear on the cam.

SAE 30. I don't think Rotella is what it used to be either.

Chevrolet started recommending multi-grade oil in 1954.
