Hey everyone, very new to the site and had a question and could use some ideas. I have a 1949 4400 stake body that chassis is in bad shape, but cab is workable. I temp set the cab on a 1983 chevy 3/4 ton 4x4 rolling chassis/350 and it looks pretty good, but fabricating cab mounts to fit the 83's 'curved chassis' (instead of the 49's straight chassis) could get interesting, but do-able. Is there another chassis that I may want to look at that would fit a little better? (example. 4x4 straight chassis? c-40,50,60 chevys?, maybe a newer style chassis?) my ideas right now are for something 4x4 'or' maybe even going back to a 1.5 ton or larger. just looking for ideas guys, and pics would be great too! thanks

Welcome to the Stovebolt! wave

You could look for a better original frame...late 1947 thru 1953 I believe should all be the same....maybe even up to 55 first series. Others will correct me if I'm wrong.

I've heard others say the newer chassis have a wider tire track and don't fit under your fenders...do a search, this has been discussed before.

Mike's right, any newer and it's a fair amount of work if it even works and likely the wheels poke out the fenders.

Original is the easy and better looking option, 48-54 frames were made to fit under that cab...

thanks alot fellas. honestly my 49' chassi is in better shape than the 83', and it will be very easy for cab, steering, etc. But since Ive put this cab on that 4x4 chassis, it looks great!! im wondering if i should use the 49' chassis, and set the 4x4 axles, eng/trans... in the 49' frame.?.?

The tires will still stick out if you do change the axles to the old chassis.

hey guys, what if he ran newer model rims the off-set pushes tire in (now i dont know if there would be brake clearance issue) and ran 1o.5 vs a 12.5 tire? at least it would pock-out less
