Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 95 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 95 | I have what I always thought was a 62' 235,but I'am having a hard time ordering a carb with a manual choke and throttle set up to run in a 51' GMC 3/4. I looked up the numbers, but would like a third party "some one with a bigger brain than mine" to varify. I'll start with the block. (Above the starter)#CON 3 D 24 2 . On the left side of the block # 21 716. Next "the head",Left side above the ports/ 3836848 GM 28. ON the right side is B 61 848/850,which should make it a 56'? Now for the "Intake" right side on top/# 8754644, on the left "15", 3" inch bolt spread, studs are in and out, "not" front to rear, with a 1"3/4 inch throat.I've been ordering replacement carbs by application with out any luck.Is this a car or truck engine? Oh! the exhast manifold # is 8885587/GM13. thanks in advance for any help or advice in getting this mess sorted out! Can you post a link to a picture? B 61 848/850 does not designate anything helpful. You have a 56-63 235 head: 3836848 The block date code is for 1962: D 24 2 What is the engine ID serial number? http://www.1954advance-design.com/Web%20images/casting-code-photos/codes-ser-nums.html | | | | | Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 95 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 95 | Thanks for the "Pics" (Tclederman),and sorry for the waist of time by not giving you the number you needed most. Engine ID serial #3769716. I'll need A lot of help in the future to send "Pics",and my resident computer experts tell me, "It's not in my future unless I get a new computer"! | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,269 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,269 | No problem, jimmy1,
3769716 is a bock casting code for a 58-63 block.
The engine serial number ID Is pressed into the block, to the rear of where the distributor enters the block. This should indicate the model truck the engine was first installed. The location of that code is shown in Photo 3.
Also, the block and head date casting codes would be interesting to see.

Engine serial ID # FO6O6J.Block date? "location"! Head date? "Hope it's not under the valve cover"! jimmy | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,269 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,269 | The location of the head date casting code is under the valve cover.
You have already given the block date: D = April 24 = 24th 2 = 1962
F0606J F = Flint, MI 06 = April oops, June 06 = 6th J = Regular production truck engine (3100 - 3200 - 3800)
Maybe someone else will comment/correct/clarify the April 6th engine assembly date with an April 24th block casting date? ignored this - see correction, below - I have to learn to be more careful counting on my fingers

Someone might have changed it over the years, in order to install a different carburetor. What type of carburetor was on it?

Don't feel bad about being a finger counter,I'am a wrench Fetcher and haven't been alowed at "Black Jack" in years! Math for me stops at 21, and they didn't see the humor in it. If you mail me a photo, I'll host it and post it.
We are "flying blind" in trying to tell you what you have. You might have a GMC part or other part foreign to a 235.
