The truck came with no keys to doors or ignition. Has anyone else had to deal with this issue. would it be cheaper to replace the switch and handles or get a locksmith out.

Questions should state a specific model of truck. This site covers trucks made over a 50 some year period.

If perhaps your truck was made from 1952 to 1966 the door lock cylinder will have the code stamped on it.

If this is the 1950 3600 from your other post the easiest is to pull the ignition switch and lock cylinder (labeling the wires as you go), take it to the locksmith to get keyed. The key should also fit the doors unless the ignition lock cylinder has been changed.

Thanks Forty9, yes it is the 3600 from my other posts. Each day i get closer and closer to getting it running, but wont make it far without a key. I look up some locksmiths.

The '50 door lock should have the number on the outside of the assembly. No need to pull the cylinder.

cletis, what will the number tell me? can i match it with a number on the ignition.. or is a number for the locksmith?

The number is a code. A locksmith with a code book covering 1935-66 GM codes can cut a key using the code. I have a copy. If you can't find a locksmith with one PM me the code and I'll tell you what the cut is. Any locksmith should be able to cut one from that.
