I've used it on my Toyota 4runner and my buddies Lexus to eliminate a couple sticking lifters. It's pretty simple on doing it, 1/3 of the bottle gets dumped in the crank case, 1/3 into the gas tank, and 1/3 sucked through a vacuum line until the engine stalls.. I'm thinking about doing this just to help clean out some carbon build ups and a slight ticking noise. Does anybody see any reason not to? | | | | | Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 Riding in the Passing Lane | | Riding in the Passing Lane Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 | No reason not to. It is good stuff. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. I have about 800 miles on the current oil in my 60 truck engine... The oil smells somewhat burnt so I think there may be some residual crap still in it... Engine does not burn oil... I have non detergent oil in it now and have recently added an oil filter... This engine did have some long periods of setting1986-2010... I did run kerosine through it a couple times a year & half ago and that did clean it out some... I have changed the oil twice sense ( hot engine method )...

If something turns loose and the oil pump picks it up it could go to the bearings rather than through the filter. The screen mesh in the oil pump pickup tube is small, but still large enough to let some stuff through that could eat up bearings in a heart beat.
I like Sea Foam, I just think I would be careful about using it in the oil. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2011 Posts: 174 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Apr 2011 Posts: 174 | Exactly what I was worried about. But to answer Healingbear when I used it in my buddies Lexus, I had just done an oil change (figured it would work better with clean oil rather than old dirty stuff) and put a new filter in. The only major thing I noticed with leaving the seafoam in the crankcase is it smoked a lot more (the Lexus already burns oil but the seafoam sure adds to the smoke). The bottle nor website say if you should add to new or old oil, I've only done to new and have had no problems. My 4runner is running quite amazing now actually. Personally I see no harm being done in new vehicles but I'm worried about, as Roy said, messing my bearings.

I use the B12 chemical because it has a stronger formula than seafoam and cheaper too. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall | | Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 | ...most of the guys who use it around here do so to pickle their boat engines for the winter. I've never used it. | | |
