The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area General Truck Talk White Wall size for 50-16?

What's the consensus on white wall sizes on 6 50-16 tires. I've seen 3" 3 3/4" or 4". Not a life or death decision.

What do you like?

I think the bottom line is what appeals to you. I look at these trucks as work trucks and would not have white walls on mine. The great part of this hobby is you can do what ever you want. You are the one that should be satisfied with it.

I just put 3 1/4" Coker WW's on my '51 3100. I like the look and the WW is not overpoweringly big.
I know they were not available until around '54 but, as stated above, it's my truck and I think it looks quite elegant - for a truck.
So, that's the way he is going to look until the next owner decides differently.

What was not available until around 1954? White wall tires, or white wall tires as a factory option, or white-walled after-market truck tires?

White-wall tires were not factory options from GM until after Advance-Deign trucks. I doubt if white-walls were factory options for any Task Force trucks. However, I'd bet that people who bought in the 50s new trucks gussied-up-with-bright-work and with options/accessories would have the dealer mount white-walls before the truck left the lot

Then, as now: it's your truck, do what appeals to you. If I ever considered having whitewalls on my 54 trucks' tires (highly unlikely), I'd go with the wide whitewalls that were in vogue in the 50s. Here is a friend's truck with real nice looking white walls.
