My next project is restoring my Dads 49 tow truck (that I learned to drive with) My question , is a 3/4 ton long bed frame the same length as a 1/2 ton long bed frame. The frame and cab need to be replaced on this truck and I have a 1/2 ton long bed frame available but not sure if they are interchangeable.

They are completely different widths/set-ups due to the suspension pieces.

Chevrolet or GMC? If it's a Chevrolet, there was not a long wheelbase 1/2 ton until '55 2nd. GMC did have a long 1/2 ton on the '47-'55 1rst body, but I'm not famialiar with them enough to tell you what the differnces were between them and the 3/4 ton.

The frame on a 1/2-ton (GMC unique 100 model/long-frame, see picture of one I parted) This truck is simply an extended 1/2-ton truck with 1/2-ton suspension pieces.

This frame is going to be 46-1/32" wide at the rear. a 1949 3/4-ton frame at the same location is 36" big difference. It is in the rear where the major differences occur due to the heavier rear differential and spring set-up.

That's why I didn't want to really say one way or the other, since I wasn't sure. On the '55-'59s, the long wheelbase 1/2 tons and 3/4 tons use the same frame.
