hello
I am new to the forum. The volunteer fire dept i am on has just taken ownership again of our first fire truck, which is a 1945 chevrolet fire engine with the 235 CI stovebolt. Weve been dilegently working on it. Rebuilt the brakes, just got in a new hydro boost and master cylinder for it, and we have the head off so it can get new valves, pushrods, and gaskets. upon trying to fire the engine up, the valves stuck, and bent some valves and some pushrods so that set up back, but were hoping to have it running, moving, and possibly stopping soon.

Welcome, cool to have your first truck back at the firehall. There is a sub-forum under "big bolts" that is especially for old GM firetrucks. Just in case you have firetruck specific issues.

Good luck with getting her going again.

Welcome to the Stovebolt 45mfd1. I'm sure you also have some bolter friend nearby. You in Detroit?.... the U.P.......Iron Mtn?

Be sure to ask here is you have any particular question. Lots of knowledge and good folks here. Oh, be sure to ask the question in the most appropiate forum for the best results. Keep us posted on the project... and some pics, we love pics.

45mfd1,welcome from Scotland.
It's great you've got one of the original firetrucks back, even better you're bringing the old gal back to life.
Like Leo's already said head over to the S.V.F.D. the guys there will also make you feel at home.
Not only that, there's a wealth of knowledge there regards these fine old firetrucks.

You probably figured this out already, but if the valves stuck, you've probably got a gas tank full of old varnish! You'll probably need to clean out or replace the tank. Been there, done that!

were located in Memphis, mi a little west of Port Huron, east of flint.
actually we took the fuel tank out, and tried running it with rubber hose and a gas can, but yea the tank is in pretty bad shape.
