Is this just a matter of swapping transmissions or are the transmissions different lenths? Thank for the help. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2002 Posts: 2,254 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2002 Posts: 2,254 | Enclosed driveshaft? They are both the same length. I did the same thing in my 48 3100. I like the floor shift.

Thanks, that what i thought. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2010 Posts: 1,232 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2010 Posts: 1,232 | Just so you know ... If you swap for a standard 1954 4-spd transmission RPO 318B, you will probably never use the extra low first gear.
4-spd Gear Ratios: 1st = 7.06:1 2nd = 3.58:1 3rd = 1.71:1 4th = 1:1 Rev = 6.78:1
3-spd Gear Ratios: 1st = 2.94:1 2nd = 1.68:1 3rd = 1:1 Rev = 2.94:1
I like my 4-spd. Syncro in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. So by not using 1st, it's like having a full syncro 3-spd tranny.

You might also find yourself using it if you convert to 3.55 ring & pinion gears and you are carrying/pulling a large load.
