To better answer your questions, what are your goals with this truck? What is wrong with the rear you have?
There are many options and each have pros and cons. For example, the rear you mention is an open driveline where the one in the truck (if original) is closed. This will require modifying or changing the transmission and other work.
So to better answer your questions, what do you want to do with this truck?

It could be anywhere from 3.08 to 4.10. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2012 Posts: 60 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jun 2012 Posts: 60 | The truck is coming to me without an engine or trany , I had planned on using the4.3 litre and T5 out of the S10 that the rear end will come from . Engine will be Carb induction with HEI ignition . I want this one to be a reliable and easy driver for my wife to use from time to time . To partly answer your question I dont know any specifics about the stock rear end I am mostly looking into possibilities .

It depends on your final plan for the truck. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 21 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 21 | 4x4 s 10 is a different width and from what I have read about the s10 frame swap the 4x4 rear end fits for width. You may want to do a search to find out. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 1,596 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 1,596 | 4x4 s 10 is a different width and from what I have read about the s10 frame swap the 4x4 rear end fits for width. I'm using the 2WD S-10 rear end in my 46 GMC so that I can run bigger wheels and tires in the back and fill up the fender wells. Mine is going to be fairly low, as well though. | | |
