What will the gear ratio likely be on a 46 GMC1/2 ton . Will the rear end from a 95 2WD S10 make a good swap .
Thank You

The rear in your 46 is likely a 4:11 unless it has been changed before you owned it.

To better answer your questions, what are your goals with this truck? What is wrong with the rear you have?

There are many options and each have pros and cons. For example, the rear you mention is an open driveline where the one in the truck (if original) is closed. This will require modifying or changing the transmission and other work.

So to better answer your questions, what do you want to do with this truck?

In addition, there were several options for the rear diff in an S-10, so you need to know what the gear ratio of it is. It could be anywhere from 3.08 to 4.10.

The truck is coming to me without an engine or trany , I had planned on using the4.3 litre and T5 out of the S10 that the rear end will come from . Engine will be Carb induction with HEI ignition . I want this one to be a reliable and easy driver for my wife to use from time to time . To partly answer your question I dont know any specifics about the stock rear end I am mostly looking into possibilities .

It would be easiest to use the S10 rear end, but the track width may be narrower. It depends on your final plan for the truck.

4x4 s 10 is a different width and from what I have read about the s10 frame swap the 4x4 rear end fits for width. You may want to do a search to find out.

It depends on what your final plan is. I'm using the 2WD S-10 rear end in my 46 GMC so that I can run bigger wheels and tires in the back and fill up the fender wells. Mine is going to be fairly low, as well though.
