It may depend on the application; whether it's in a car or truck, or if it's an early or late 235. What specific 235 do you have?

If you know what vehicle it came in you might be able to access an owners manual or shop manual here.

If you don't know what it originally came in post the stamped serial number and casting numbers and we'll try to help ID it. smile

And, it depends on the size of the oil filter, if you have one (and if you empty it when changing oil).

I usually fill them with oil till they reach the FULL mark on the dipstick.

5 quarts will get you safely started, if you have a filter, it will fill up and you can check the level, then add to fill if necessary. Then you will know.
