I got to tow 2 of the same size machines with the Ward at a steam show last July. That chain steering systems has a lot of slop in it, but with a top sped of 2 mph, I guess you do not need to much "road feel".

From what I understand, the reason for the chain steering as apposed to steering arms, which the technology was certainly there at the time, was due to the risk of an arm breaking and possibly poking the boiler. I found it not difficult to turn the wheel other than the amount of revolutions it took to complete a turn.

Right around the corner form my place. The guy that owns the place is going to help me with the 860. He rents bays in his buildings to his friends. The guy that owns the Rumley is a buddy of his.

Thanks Lonnie. The guy that owns the Rumley had heard about my truck and asked my buddy that owns the property to ask me to bring it for a photo shoot. I wish I had a better camera.
Anyway, it was a cool experience.

George, I don't think they came in a 4X4 model. Might have been hard to keep the fire in the box on steep inclines! I'm thinking hot feet since thats about where the fire box door is.

Dang, Billy, that first picture with the two backed up to eachother? Photoshop...edit out the modern homes, put in a barn, maybe do a sepia or nice black and white finish and put me down for a copy I'll frame. Beautiful shot.

It was fun to do. Especially enjoyed erasing the houses! Couldn't do much about the one behind the tractor, but the details are hidden pretty well.

You can save the picture from Photobucket. Right-click the photo and choose "save picture as". Print it on 8-1/2 X 11 photo paper. If you stand far enough away and squint one eye, it should be OK. If the quality is too poor, print onto smaller paper.

Nicely done, Lonnie! For antiquing an image, I've found this tutorial to be particularly helpful. Especially how it shows you how to add negative scratches and other effects.

I don't remember if that lesson addresses vignetting or not which you'll also want to apply for the faded edge look (in CS5, it's under "Filters/Lens Correction/Custom/Vignetting" and it's a slider bar so you can set it to where you want).

There's also Polaroid effects and torn edges and all that, but if you want to discuss any of that, PM me -- I always enjoy talking Photoshop

Thanks, looking forward to diving into the PhotoShop tutorial. The sepia tone pic was a fast basic job. I don't have a Good-Times account, so I snipped the image off of my screen - very low resolution. Not much to work with.

Billy sent me the original image. It is much better quality. I'll play with it over the next few days. I'm sending you a PM. Perhaps I can forward his files to you so that an "expert" can work on the images.

FYI - I use an older version (v7) of PaintShop Pro instead of PhotoShop. I'm too cheap to buy PhotoShop. As I told Billy in a PM earlier today, I leaned everything by trial-and-error. Mostly error.

This could start a whole new sub-forum on Stovebolt.
