We got a battery tray from Bowtie Bits and it is way (about 5/8") too narrow. I tried to bend the legs out on it to make it fit and the rivets holding it together popped out. What an expensive piece of crap! The only way I could see making it work would be by re-drilling the holes in the frame (which would necessitate welding the old ones shut). I shouldn't have to do this on something that cost over $50 and is listed in the catalog as a "reproduction". I get so tired of these so-called reproductions that aren't worth the boxes they came in. Is there any one of these parts that is good enough quality to install as it should? Thanks.

I've not purchased one for an Art Deco in a long time but JimCarter has been in business long enough that one would think he'd have corrected a bad box. Give them a call and see what they say..... but in all honesty I'd give Bowtie Bits a call and see what they will do. I suspect all are made by the same mfg. company but then we never know.
Try the link below. You may have to copy and paste it in your address window and it will take you to Carters. Good luck....and let us know What Bowtie Bits does for you.

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.

Hope you have better luck with the battery box than I did with a new grill for an AD.

Hello, I bought mine from "Classic Parts of America." I had no trouble with it. The only thing I had to modify was the battery hold down bracket. The angle strips on the corner were really close to the battery post. Wasn't a problen to modify. If you are using a 6-volt battery I bet you would have no trouble. Just my thoughts. My last catalog list the price as $44.95 for the box,$11.95 for the battery top retainer. May be more by now but as I said it bolted right in. Good luck.

PS: You could make a simple bracket to hold the battery down. Probably you may have a piece of scrap around the shop.

I'll be going the same route as you, welding a angle frame to mount the battery behind the cab, in frame rail on my 1942 1.5 dump. I just want easier access since the truck will be doing more sitting than driveing
