Hi Guys,in my 1952 3100 pickup,I have a brand new 1 wire 12 volt alternator and while driving in daylight without any accessories on my battery stays charged. When I put the headlights on ,that seems to drain the battery . My battery gauge goes to the D side about 1/2 way and when I put the turn signals on ,you can see the battery needle go with the signal. Could this be a bad headlight switch? All gruonding seems good. THX

Did you run a heavy wire straight from the alternator to the battery by passing the amp gauge? If so then the amp gauge will show a discharge any time something is turned on because there is no current being fed through it back to the battery.

Check your voltage at the battery with the engine running and headlights on. Should be around 13.5 volts to 14.5 volts. If so then the alternator is working.

Sounds like the alt. is weak. Check the voltage like Roy says. Check the belt. It needs to be real tight as there is not much surface contact on the pulley with the 6 cyl. engine.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.

Three wire alternators are better, and easy to wire. But glad you got it charging.
