I did some searching but couldnt come up with anything concrete.

I'm looking into getting the offenhauser 3 carb intake on my 52 3100 with a 235. I will be running 3 Rochester b carbs on it. My question is does anyone know if there will be firewall clearance issues on the third carb or the linkage? Has anyone else ran this setup that had any issues with it?

Thanks,
Wade

I believe there is firewall and fender brace issues with the rear carb.

Just a note that you might want to blank off the fron and back carb, so you get the luck without the over-fueling, if it becomes an issue.

Keep the fire extinguisher handy. It's going to spit, bog, and backfire, and it won't have enough power to get out of its own way. If you trailer it to the car show, and push it on and off the trailer, it might work that way.

Get a 2 carb offy, preferably the 1034 216 model with "Buffalo" adapter rings, use SAE 2 size Carter W-1s or YFs, get better milage and power, and still look good, imho. Even the big NASCAR Hudsons only used 2 carbs. 3 Bs on a 235 is WAY overcarbed.

Come on guys, getting multicarbs to run just takes time and patience and the right tools to get them working together correctly.

To answer the initial question, the fender brace will get in the way. Sometime cutting out the brace and replaceing the section with a horseshoe will make it all work fine.

No comment on the clearance issue.

As to 3 carbs on a six cylinder, a properly thought-out and tuned system will run GREAT! Those who might disagree might look at the Jaguar XK-E or the Austin Healey 3000 as a couple of examples. There are many others. However, 3 Rochester B's on a basically stock 235 is grossly overkill!

A wee bit of homework will pay huge dividends.

Referring to 2 english cars as examples of "properly thought out" and "well tuned" isn't helping your case.

Just kidding, sorry, I had to do it.

Good point, however there are no Lucas electrics in the carburetors! wink

I've done a buttload of work on Zenith, Stromberg, and SU "constant depression" carbs. The reason they run so well on Brit cars is the same design feature a Quadrajet has. The spring-loaded floating pistons and the Q-jet air valve won't let the engine get over-carbureted. No matter what the driver does with the gas pedal, the carb is as close to idiot-proof as possible. Rochester B's and even Carters can be overriden by an impatient driver's right foot.

Why is there no mention of progressove linkage? I run 3 Ford 94's on my 302 GMC with no problems at all. I used Speedway Motors progressive linkage to save myself the time and trouble of making the indifidual levers on the three carbs. It's set to come in at about half throttle, and at that RPM there's no overcarburetion, just power.

On a separate note, I've heard that the Carter W1s are better suited to Multiple Carburetor setups. Something to do with the sensivity of the power valve on the Rochesters
