I'm going to guess the hole that's offset to one side is the inlet, and supplies oil to the outside of the filter element, and the return line will come out of the center. There's probably a small hole somewhere in the center pipe that acts as a restrictor to prevent oil pressure loss and control the flow through the filter. Finding a correct-sized filter element might be a challenge. Jerry

You need to make sure there is this type of restriction, so that the filter doesn't fill up with oil and starve your bearings. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2011 Posts: 24 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Jul 2011 Posts: 24 | Not sure if this helps or not, but here is a great article on oil filters...Looks like it could be an S-2 type filter (1946-48). << Check that section out. I am referring to images 17 & 18. Great oil filter debate Oops, almost forgot...Installation instructions are are the bottom of the article. : ) Thanks, -Paul

The other is just a drain; a hole through the block skirt into the crankcase - the return line goes there. It is the lower hole. (Maybe you know that already?) Maybe the pictures in this Tech Tip will help. Good luck.

In those days those were an optional item. Filters for that can are still available from WIX. Normbc9 | | |
