can anyone identify this oil filter setup on my 46 1/2 ton it has both fittings on the bottom of the tank and its been bypassed, i need to know which lines go where and what type of filter setup it is...thanks http://s629.photobucket.com/albums/uu14/kurtdh519/oil%20filter/

Have you opened it up? I'm going to guess the hole that's offset to one side is the inlet, and supplies oil to the outside of the filter element, and the return line will come out of the center. There's probably a small hole somewhere in the center pipe that acts as a restrictor to prevent oil pressure loss and control the flow through the filter. Finding a correct-sized filter element might be a challenge.

Depending on the setup, the hole to control flow through the filter can be either in the lines themselves or in the filter housing.

You need to make sure there is this type of restriction, so that the filter doesn't fill up with oil and starve your bearings.

Not sure if this helps or not, but here is a great article on oil filters...Looks like it could be an S-2 type filter (1946-48). << Check that section out. I am referring to images 17 & 18.

ok, i got it apart, and it has the hole in the pipe for the restriction but i need to know which lines hook to it from the motor since I have 4 different oil lines from the bypass that someone put on it, thats why, i need a picture of a 216 engine on the drivers side that shows the oil line setup

The top or lid on hoozat's filter is shaped different than the lid pictured in the S-2 description...

mine isnt an s-2 because all my lines go thru the bottom of the tank, i just dont know which line off the motor goes to the in and which is the return

Of the two ports or threaded holes in the block, only 1 has pressure as it comes from the oil galley. The other is just a drain; a hole through the block skirt into the crankcase - the return line goes there. It is the lower hole.

We had one of these on a 1949 Chevy cab over with a 235 six in it. It was an optional oil filter. In those days those were an optional item. Filters for that can are still available from WIX.
