If the price is right get both. You can usually buy the SM318 transmissions pretty cheap but if you have to buy individual parts some can be quite pricy.

| | | | | Joined: Oct 2011 Posts: 206 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2011 Posts: 206 | so i pick em both up, 25 for the 3 speed and 50 for the 319 with overdrive. the 319 w.o.d. dosent seem to roll as smooth as the 3 speed without overdrive, can i just swat the rears of the two or should i take them to a trans guy and have him rebuild the 319. | | | | | Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 | The cases are specific to each other, there are differences in the castings on the main case of the overdrive version for the blocker pin and oiling passeges. There is also a difference in the mainshaft, the overdrive version is much shorter.
