Hmmm. Last post was 2006!! Yikes! Been busy with work, promotions, work........

A buddy hit me up and after many years wants to go racing again. He wants to (re)build a fuel altered and a top fuel FED cackle car. So I said to him, "Do you know what would make a good push car?? My Suburban!!"

Ahh, all it takes is a little spark!! So, out with the grand dreams of a full on pretty car! Let's get 'er back together and drive it for a while!! A little primer, a few windows...... Same web page, more pics added!! Feel free to ask questions, if you like!!

Time to address the passenger side windows. A little more rot there but the pieces are saveable for now. I do have to make an outer molding lower retainer bracket. Time to dig out the nibler.

Side widows are done. As long as there is no more rain in the forecast, I can peel the cargo doors off, grind off the paint, put them in black and reseal the glass. I also got new glass for the side doors. Time to work on them things.

Multi tasking. Brakes, stripping the front of the motor, fitting the inner fenders, figuring out the power steering, finding exhaust flanges that fit, considering using the original radiator.................

Darn brake lines. Hmmmm. The morning dew sure leaves a big puddle under there. ACK! Looks like I have a leaking union. So I change that out and, nope, starts dripping even faster! And that union ain't in an easy to get to place, neither! Out comes the whole rear line. Time to make a new one...........

Meanwhile, the power steering side of the block is starting to look like something. I'm even playing with the headers.

Work continues on the power steering plumbing. Plans to use the original radiator fell through when I pressure tested it and found too many pinholes. So I'll keep using it for mock up. Some exhaust tubing showed up in the mail. So did the Tuned Port wiring. AND, I'm making a pile of things to go to the chromer. The modified Corvette serpentine system seems like it will work out. AND I think I'm getting close to wiring it all up. I'm thinking of re doing the gauge pod with modern guts. I don't want to plumb a oil pressure tube ( teen horror story ) and I don't want to use the coolant pill tube. I want to use senders.

I know, I know. More pictures. I'll work on that too!

No recent updates. Been helping a buddy restore the 1971 world champion top fuel dragster for his friend who's been diagnosed with ALS. We wanted to get it to the October Hot Rod Reunion but looks like we won't make it. So now we are trying for the World Finals in November. I'm still on track to get the Suburban on the road and running the first quarter of 2013. We wanted to use the Burb as a push car but that won't happen anytime soon. If anyone is interested, I have pics of the dragster!!

Dragster Pics. Overall goal, get it restored for cackling, not racing. Basically for show.

http://www.bunchobikes.com/schultzandglenn.htm

One of my jobs was to make tank brackets. The goal was to temporarily attach the period tanks without welding on the frame (the frame is still NHRA certified.) Success on the oil tank. Not so much on the nitro tank. I miss measured and the tank sits too far back and too high. Not easy to do this stuff when the dragster is in one county and I'm making brackets in another. Try number 2 coming next..............

The Hemi still needs to be built and dropped in.

I actually have more pics of the other stuff I've been working on. Blower, manifold, injector.

Well, days are short which means less light which means not much in pictures. But, I've been working on little things. You know, the 5 minute jobs that never end. Tax return is coming, so that will mean radiator, mufflers and a few other necessary items. I'm getting a little excited because I think I am still on target to make this thing run by March. Work also continues on the race car stuff.

Hay Mark I was just looking at your pictures. The Burb is looking good. Your gas tank sure looks like it might work for my 37 panel. Can I ask where you got it and how many gallons it is?

These old bolts are in my blood. Hard thing is focusing on just one.

Still plugging away. Gotta get the intake figured out. Finalize the exhaust. Figure out what to do about the VSS and speedometer drive. Install the new radiator, install the new trans cooler lines. Throw in some engine wiring and I should be able to fire it pretty soon. Then I'll move on to wiring lights and the dash.
