I'm trying to find out what is written on the Red Tag On Back Of 1946 Fuel Gauge.
I have this much of the puzzle:
_______?_______ contacts this terminal it may burn out tank unit.
Can any one fill in the missing words at the beginning?

The tank unit is a variable resistor connected to ground, and if it's at its low resistance end from the fuel level in the tank, the short to ground will burn out the resistor.
It could also say "Do not connect a jumper wire to both terminals" which is basically the same thing- - - -battery voltage directly to the resistor.

I believe I can use 3 of the words from your tag to fill in my blanks.
I'm guessing If Hot Wire contacts this terminal it may burn out tank unit.

Warning Tag on Rear of Gas Gauge Terminal that Goes to the Sending Unit. This one is for a 1946. Other years may differ. Short tag is a portion of the original. I think it came out pretty close to original. Harold
