I have a 47 3100 that I am putting a 54 235 in place of the broken 216. My plain is to do the Patrick's set-up using the Saginaw 4 speed. I found a two groove input shaft saginaw but the bell housing off my 216 does not mate up with this 4 speed. It is about 3/4" from the holes matching. The guy that has the saginaw says it is form a late 60's vette. It does have the 2 grooves. My question is are there other two groove saginaws or is my 47 bellhousing diffrent than the other year AD bellhousings?

Corvettes did not come with a Saginaw 4 speed.

I did not think they did but he did have two vetts setting there a 68 and a 69. And he has two of these saginaw 2 groove trannies. Maybe diden't come in the vette but was a cheep replacment.

Hy kswillie, I believe 1947 was the last year for the sliding gear four speed transmission, and the older design three speed, both these transmissions had a smaller bolt pattern than the newer transmissions. In one way you're lucky, your 47 doesn't have the clutch and brake pedals mounted to the bellhousing, so you could use a 48 - 53 bellhousing, and everything should work perfectly, hope that helps.

3B's advice is spot on. '47 was the last year for the non-synchronized transmissions which have a different bolt pattern than '48 and later.
