For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 38 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 38 | This may be a very simple question for many but I just installed the engine into my 54 and bolting up the Powerglide but I need to turn the engine to get all of the flywheel bolts installed. This requires turning the engine. Is there a particulr tool perhaps to use at the harmonic balancer or what have most of you done before for this??? | | | | | Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 1,901 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 1,901 | On my 270 I just put a socket on the crank bolt. It helps to have the spark plugs out, then you might even get away with turning the fan blades...
Give me ambiguity or give me something else

Hope that helps, Jeremy | | | | | Joined: Sep 2010 Posts: 695 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2010 Posts: 695 | I may have missed it. Is your engine an L6? I had a similar problem with my clutch pressure plate installation with the bell housing mounted on the 261. On mine, I finger tightened all the bolts and then tightened one then using it to rotate the engine to get to the next. The center hole is not threaded. Must be a differnce in the 2 engines perhaps? LOSTMY47 - thanks for the photos - that is the type of tool or device I need it appears. This is what I may need to fabricate. I should check with my rebuilder to see if he has one of these for a short term borrow. HELLONMRWILSON - yes I have very liminted access to slip the bolt in the housing through the flywheel to the torque converter. Got the first one in and then I need to spin the motor to get to the next bolt hole and so on for the other 5. The shop manual did not say anything of this but I should check again....
