The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Engine Shop Auto Column Linkage ?

Hi all,

I'm in the process of putting in a new engine in my '65 and while doing so, switched out the floor shift for an automatic column. I'm having a bugger of a time figuring out how to hook up the automatic column shifter to the TH-350 transmission. Any help is appreciated.

I used all the linkage from a 1980 C10

Did you have to do any cutting, welding, or other modifications, and did you also use the power steering unit from the S-10? I'm also thinking about adding power steering.

That's a C-10, a half-ton truck, yes I robbed the steering box also. It's been a while, but I just took the linkage, spring, trans piece, bushing & frame bracket & all & it worked fine, had to drill 2 holes in the upper flange of the frame using a right angle drill for the little bracket to mount.

There is a universale link kit avaiable that is adjustable. I think Summit has it & yogis also.

'64, I know, I have two of my own (one and three years old). My truck will always be a "work in progress".

'wrench, I bought one from Lockar but it only seems to have about half of what I needed. I thnk it was the half from the tranny, but it didn't come with instructions so I'm kind guessing. I spoke to a guy at our salvage yard today and he's checking his yard for me.

If you get the lokar cable, you also have to get the aluminum piece that clamps on to the bottom of the steering column. I think the part no. is ACA-1804. That will hold the cable. The Lokar kit is kinda pricey. I am using that kit on one of my trucks, but I'm with '64, I'd try to use '80's linkage

I found a donor unit out of a '74 Chevy with a 3spd auto. I haven't installed it yet but it looks like it will work alright.
