Just received new cab steps for my 58. Quite disappointed as they seem light and I question how they may hold up. Wont mention the vendor. Would appreciate recommendations for a source from those of you who have replaced these.

I got mine from American Classic Truck parts. Ordered the ones with the rocker formed right in with the step. Very happy with them, only thing that could have been better is if it came with free installation.

I got mine from NAPA, they're in the general system, perfect match to original weight .... it may be that you found them light because you got the ones without the rocker? you also need to remember there's a reinforcing "strap" on the back that may not have been included, and there's an angle bracket under the back that attaches to the cab - don't evaluate the strength by the bare step

Thanks for the information. These include the rocker panels and the support that runs length wise underneath. The original steps appear to be double plated which would help to deflect rocks etc. I assume this because the originals are rusting througn on top and I can still see metal underneath. Thanks again for sharing your source.

that rusting from the top is actually rusting up from inside that V brace that's original underneath, which is the only "doubling" - always the first place to go because of the road crud that gets caught in there - good idea to spray inside the new one thoroughly with something like rock-gard or epoxy primer

good to remember these ol trucks were sold very cheaply, so built very cheaply to still make a profit, the designers expected them to be used to death long before any rust-thru showed - unlike todays machines, none of the hidden spaces were treated in any way, that's your job
