During degreasing and disassembly I found a grease fitting on top of the u joint housing on the transmission. What type of lubricant should I use, and how would I know when I've pumped in sufficient lubricant since it is a sealed assembly? I have the bushing style of front u joint. | | |

There would have originally been a small bolt where that grease fitting now is. This is the filler hole for the initial lube.This area receives it lube from the gearbox, however when its put back together you need to add about a cup of the same oil as is in the gearbox to lube the u-joint.

Do a search on this question. It has been brought up before. My fornt joint also has a zerk fitting and I lube mine with grease. Others have done this as well. | | |

The rear of the tranny has a cast carrier that allows some tranny fluid to enter the ball housing for lubrication. The rear housing can be filled through the opening as Mozzie stated. | | |
